Assault Causing Bodily Harm
(Bradford, ON) On Friday, August 26, 2016, just before 9:00 p.m., South Simcoe Police officers were on a call in Bradford when they were approached by a man who told them he had been assaulted. Officers learned that the man went to a Moore Street home when he was ambushed and assaulted by two suspects. He was able to escape, but suffered some broken bones. A 19 year old Bradford man was arrested nearby, and a 17 year old Bradford youth was arrested on Saturday. The man was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm; the youth was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm and Assault with a Weapon. Both will appear in court in October and have been ordered to stay away from the victim.
Assault With A Weapon
(Innisfil, ON) On Saturday, August 27, 2016, just before 8:00 p.m., South Simcoe Police were dispatched to a rural Cookstown home, after a passerby saw a man and woman arguing in front of their home. When officers arrived, they determined that the woman was intoxicated when she threw a cellphone at the victim and broke a lawn chair.
A 39 year old woman was charged with Assault With A Weapon and Domestic Mischief. She was held in custody for a bail hearing.
The man was not injured.
Drive Over 80 mgs
(Innisfil, ON) On Saturday, August 27, 2016, just before 11:00 p.m., a South Simcoe Police constable was patrolling Innisfil Beach Road when he was cut off by a vehicle exiting a parking lot. He pulled the car over and spoke with the driver, who admitted to drinking earlier. A roadside screening device test was conducted, resulting in a FAIL. After further testing at the station, a 22 year old Innisfil man was charged with Drive Over 80 mgs. His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and his car impounded. The man will appear in court in September.
Canada Shipping Act Charge
(Innisfil, ON) On Sunday, August 28, 2016, around 4:00 p.m., South Simcoe Police Marine Unit officers, aboard the John Wardrop II, watched as a man on a personal watercraft cut off another vessel which had the right of way on Lake Simcoe near Innisfil Beach Park. The vessel was stopped and the 21 year old Barrie man was found to be operating without a Pleasure Craft Operators Card. He was charged accordingly and escorted to shore. Boaters are reminded that federal legislation requires all operators of powered vessels to have the appropriate licencing and to carry it with them while underway.
Stunt Driving
(Innisfil, ON) On Monday, August 29, 2016, just after midnight, a South Simcoe Police Traffic Unit constable was patrolling Innisfil Beach Road when he saw and stopped a speeding vehicle. A roadside screening device test came back with a reading above zero, and the radar read 66 km/h over the limit. A 20 year old man from Toronto has been charged with Stunt Driving, Speeding and Novice Drive: BAC above zero. The man’s car was impounded and his licence suspended for 7 days. He will appear in court in October.
Impaired Driving
(Innisfil, ON) On Monday, August 29, 2016, just after midnight, South Simcoe Police responded to a single vehicle roll over collision on 10 Sideroad, near the 9th Line of Innisfil. Officers arrived on scene and located a man being spoken to by paramedics and determined him to be the driver of the car. After a short investigation, the man was arrested and taken to the station for testing. A 37 year old Barrie man has been charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Over 80 mgs. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded. He will appear in court in September. The man was not injured.
