South Simcoe Police Daily News Release – 20Jan2017

(Bradford, ON) On Wednesday, January 18, 2017, a Bradford woman reported to South Simcoe Police that she has been a victim of internet fraud. She reported that she received a message on her computer screen from Microsoft stating her computer was infected by viruses. The victim was asked to call the number on the screen and they would assist her with removing the viruses but first a payment would have to be made. Payment was made by credit card which led to additional information being provided giving the suspect greater opportunity to gain access to other financial accounts. Luckily the victim became suspicious and quickly changed her computer password, cancelled her credit card and reported the incident to police.  

On Thursday, January 19, 2017, South Simcoe Police were called to two additional internet fraud related cases, in both cases, the victims had their doubts about the validity of the transactions and took action to protect themselves from any financial loss. 

Police remind people to never give out personal or financial information over the internet or the phone. No financial company will ask for banking or credit card information over the phone or internet. If in doubt, end the transaction and call the company directly.  

Theft From U-Haul Trailer 

(Bradford, ON) South Simcoe Police were called to a home on Fortis Crescent in Bradford on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 around 2:30 a.m. for a report of a theft from a locked trailer. Unknown suspect or suspects cut the pad lock off the U-Haul trailer sitting in the driveway of her residence and removing household items.

Industrial Accident 

(Bradford, ON) On Wednesday, January 18, 2017, South Simcoe Police were called to a business located in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury for an industrial accident where a man was injured working on a table saw. The blade made contact with the worker’s hand and cut into his thumb. Employees and staff were quick to assist with First Aid and the 53 year old Newmarket man only sustained minor injuries.
