South Simcoe Police Daily News Release – 02Feb2017

Warrant Arrest

(Bradford, ON) On January 26, 2017, a York Region man failed to attend court in Bradford on a theft charge. A Warrant was issued for his arrest. On Wednesday, February 1, 2017, South Simcoe Police, acting on a tip, went to a Bradford home to look for the suspect. A female resident of the home told officers that the wanted man was not there, and invited them in to look for themselves. The fugitive was located hiding under a blanket. The 38 year old man was arrested and held in custody for a Bail Hearing. He will be facing an added charge of Fail To Appear.

Fraud

On February 1, 2017, an Innisfil woman reported an on-line fraud. When she attempted to use her on-line banking, a pop up appeared on her computer requesting confirmation. The victim entered personal information. A short time later, the bank’s security called to advise that blocked an attempt to transfer money from her account.

When using on-line banking, make sure the website is correct. Your bank will never ask you to enter personal information beyond a password or security questions. Your date of birth or social insurance numbers will not be requested. If you have any concerns about on-line banking, attend your bank branch and speak with a customer service representative.

Theft

(Innisfil, ON) On Wednesday, February 1, 2017, South Simcoe Police were sent to the Mercedes dealership on Doral Drive in Innisfil. Sometime between Monday and Wednesday, a culprit had stolen the tires of two vans parked for display near Highway 400. Since the theft would take a considerable amount of time to complete, Police are asking anyone who was driving by and saw suspicious activity to call in. Video surveillance footage is under review.

Suspended Drivers

On Tuesday, January 31, 2017, around 3:00 p.m., a South Simcoe Police Traffic officer investigated, after a trailer fell off a truck in Bradford. The driver had the odour of alcohol on his breath. A roadside screening device test was positive for alcohol, and as a novice driver, the man as suspended for 24 hours. He was also given several charges related to the trailer.

Also on Tuesday, around 7:00 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle in Cookstown. The officer learned that the driver was under suspension. A 29 year old Innisfil man will be in court in March charged with Drive Under Suspension.

On Wednesday, February 1, 2017, around 3:30 p.m., a Traffic officer stopped a speeding driver in Bradford. Investigation revealed that the man’s licence was under suspension. A 44 year old Keswick man was charged with Speeding, Drive Under Suspension and Failing To Have Proof of Insurance. He will be in court in March.
