Drive Under Suspension

On Tuesday, February 28, 2017, a South Simcoe Police Traffic officer removed two drivers from our roads, one in Innisfil and the other in Bradford West Gwillumbury. Both were driving while their driving privileges had been revoked. Both drivers are facing charges of Drive Under Suspension.

To help identify high risk drivers, South Simcoe Police operate a vehicle with an Automatic Licence Plate Reader (ALPR) system. Two cameras are mounted to a police vehicle and capture the licence plates of vehicles approaching and that have passed. The plates are run on a database that helps to alert officers to drivers who are unlicenced, suspended or driving without insurance.

You may not drive, under any circumstances, when your licence is suspended. If you are convicted of driving while your licence is suspended for an HTA offence you will have to pay a fine of $1,000 to $5,000 for a first offence and $2,000 to $5,000 for a subsequent offence. (A “subsequent” offence is when you are convicted again within five years.) The court can order you to spend up to six months in jail, or you may have to pay a fine or do both. Six months will be added to your current suspension as well.

Training Scenario

(Innisfil, ON) There will be an increased police presence tonight at the Tanger Outlet Mall. Officers from the South Simcoe Police Emergency Response Unit (ERU) will be conducting a joint training scenario with Simcoe County Paramedics beginning around 9 p.m. The training exercise will continue until around midnight and will focus on the interoperability between the two agencies during a high risk call for service.
