(LAKE HURON, ON) – On Saturday, August 17th, 2013, the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marine Unit will be joining the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG), Transport and Rescue Squadron 424 out of 8 Wing Trenton, The Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, The U.S. Coast Guard participating in a Search and Rescue (SAR) exercise being led by the Ontario Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA).

The exercises will take place along the southern shores of Lake Huron near the communities of Goderich and Kincardine. The exercises will engage marine and air SAR personnel, and technology, in a real-time operational response to emergency situations.

The purpose of maritime emergency exercises is to test our shared response to potential maritime distress incidents in the area. Search and rescue training is an essential component of our maritime operations, and the safety of Canadians.

The public should not be alarmed by the presence of rescue vessels and aircraft in these areas.

As a reminder, should the public be witness to or involved in a real maritime distress or emergency situation, they should contact the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre at 1-800-267-7270, or use Channel 16 on their marine VHF radio.
