Social Media Helps Solve Serious Injury Hit And Run Near Stratford – Name Of Driver Released

(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) – The Perth County OPP have made an arrest in Monday evening’s fail to remain crash involving a motor vehicle and a bicycle along Hwy 8 between Stratford and Shakespeare.

Late Tuesday evening September 13th, police received a call from a Perth East resident who had heard about the crash on social media. The resident advised that a small pickup truck with front end damage as well as a missing passenger side mirror was parked on a property in Shakespeare. Police attended the property and located a 2000 GMC Sonoma pickup truck with the described damage. The pickup truck was seized by police.

Police determined that the person who had driven the vehicle on the evening of the crash was the registered owner. Police made attempts to contact and locate the registered owner with negative results.

On Wednesday September 14th, the registered owner of the pickup truck contacted police and wanted to turn himself in. The male was arrested and processed at the Perth County OPP Detachment in Sebringville.

33-year-old David CLEAVELEY of Stratford has been charged has been charged with “fail to stop at the scene of an accident involving bodily harm”, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. He was released from police custody by way of a Promise to Appear (PTA) and is scheduled to answer the charge in the Stratford Criminal Court of Justice on October 17, 2016.

Police are actively continuing their investigation into this collision. A Warrant to Search is being executed on the pickup truck on Friday September 16th by OPP forensic experts.
