Social Media Helps Identify Theft Suspect

Yesterday, the Chatham-Kent Police Service released an image of a suspect responsible for the theft of a gas tank from a convenience store in Thamesville.

Through the power of social media, family and friends recognized the suspect. The 51-year-old Thamesville man subsequently returned the gas tank to its rightful owner. The victim was pleased with the quick resolution and wished no further police involvement.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to thank everyone who shared or retweeted the information which ultimately resulted in this case being solved.

Man Charged with Impaired Driving CK15031716

At 12:45 a.m. this morning, police responded to the area of Delaware Avenue in Chatham in regards to a traffic complaint. A man was operating a fork lift on the roadway with no functioning lights. An officer located the man travelling eastbound on McNaughton Avenue. Through investigation, the officer believed the man was driving the fork lift while under the influence of alcohol. The man was arrested and transported to police headquarters for breath tests.

The 24-year-old Chatham man has been charged with impaired driving, driving while disqualified and two counts of driving while under suspension. He will be released when sober. Police continue to investigate where the man acquired the fork lift.

Woman Charged with Assault CK15031698

Last night, just before 9:00 p.m. police responded to a domestic disturbance in the Wallaceburg area. A man was assaulted by his common-law wife. Through investigation, the man disclosed that this was not the first time that he had been the victim of domestic abuse.

The 56-year-old Wallaceburg woman was taken into custody and charged with two counts of assault. She was released pending a future court date of November 3, 2015.

Theft of Truck in Wallaceburg CK15031721

Around 4:00 a.m. this morning, unknown suspect(s) stole a locked grey 2003 GMC Denali from a residence on Wallace Street. The truck was last seen with Ontario licence plates BYAH 623.

Motor Vehicle Collision CK15031675

Just before 6:00 p.m. last night, police responded to a two vehicle collision on McNaughton Avenue West near Street of Dreams in Chatham.

No one was injured. Total damage was estimated at $10,000.

A 40-year-old woman was charged with careless driving.
