Snowmobile Operator Facing Careless Driving Charge After Collision

(SOUTH BRUCE PENINSULA, ON) On Sunday, February 10, 2013 at approximately 3:00p.m. Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a collision involving a pickup truck and a snowmobile on Red Bay Rd., in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula.

A 2005 Skidoo GSX was traveling south on the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC), trail north of the Red Bay Rd. At the trail intersection at Red Bay Rd the operator drove the snowmobile into the side of an east bound 2011 Dodge pickup truck. The female snowmobile operator was transported to Wiarton hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

44-year-old Carrie QUIGLEY of Kingsville was charged with Careless Driving under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act.

The OPP wish to remind riders to be safe when riding and offer the following tips:

– avoid alcohol until you are completely finished riding
– slow down while riding at night and wear reflective clothing
– stay on OFSC trails
– keep to the right side of the trail
– slow down on corners and when cresting hills
– wear an approved snowmobile helmet
– stop before crossing every road and railway track
– carry an emergency survival kit and cell phone
– ride with someone if possible and make sure you tell someone else of your route
