Snow Squall Watch – 10cm Snow – Visibility May Suddenly Be Reduced

4:50 AM EST Friday 12 February 2016

Snow squall watch in effect for:

Wingham – Blyth – Northern Huron County

Snow squalls are expected to develop. Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow, and snow will quickly accumulate.

An Arctic cold front is forecast to cross Southern Ontario later today and introduce the coldest air of the season. As a result, a band of intense snow squalls are expected to develop and move across the region this afternoon into this evening. Accumulations of 5 to 10 cm are possible this afternoon and again this evening.

Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

Snow squall watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the formation of bands of snow that could produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
