At 3:40 AM a snow plow failed to negotiate a turn, and flattened a
stop sign on the opposite side of the road. This careless act
was made worse by the fact the driver did not try to fix the sign,
and just drove on. Shortly after 8AM, a Wingham Police Officer
stopped, and with the help of a citizen, straightened out the sign
enough for oncoming traffic to see it clearly.
Fortunately nobody was at the intersection when the plow operator
lost control of his vehicle, or the town would be facing a major
lawsuit from a grieving family. Another fortunate thing is
that there were no accidents at the intersection due to the
flattened stop sign, as that too would have resulted in major
lawsuit.
WFP applauds the Wingham Police Officer, and Citizen, that cared
enough about public safety to restore the traffic controls at the
intersection.
This is just one more example of how little respect the Works
Department has for the public and their safety.
