Smash And Grab In Central Huron – Rifle And Hunting Gear Stolen

(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers, including members of the Huron OPP Property Crimes Unit are currently investigating a theft of a hunting rifle that took place over the weekend. At 1:34 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2017 Huron OPP officers responded to Maitland Line west of Clinton to meet with two victims. Investigators learned the victims were hunting in a nearby field around 1:15 p.m. when they initially heard a loud noise followed by the sound of their vehicle alarm sounding. They quickly made their way back to their pickup truck where they found someone had smashed a rear window and gained access into the locked truck.

Upon checking over the vehicle the following property was reported as stolen:

A Savage Model 10 Predator .243 Calibre bolt action rifle. The rifle was secured with a combination trigger lock and it was stored in a soft gun case.

A camo style Browning backpack

Two (2) Cabela’s brand Northern shotgun cases

A Coleman shotgun case

A Rocky brand camo sweater

A Carlson’s shotgun choke

Duck calls, Rabbit Decoys

Various types of ammunition.

The victims reported seeing a light blue larger model sports utility vehicle fleeing the scene.
