Skateboarder Struck In Goderich

(GODERICH, ON) – A skateboarder from Goderich is very fortunate to be at home and out of the hospital following a crash in the Town of Goderich last night.

At approximately 7:00 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Huron County Paramedic Services and Goderich Fire Department personnel responded to the intersection of Victoria Street North & Newgate Street for a car versus pedestrian collision.

An off-duty police officer witnessed the crash and provided immediate first aid to the injured female until emergency services providers attended the scene.

The preliminary investigation has determined the female skateboarder was facing westbound on Newgate Street and had waited for traffic to clear. She attempted to cross the four lanes of traffic however she entered into the path of a Toyota Echo that was travelling southbound on Victoria Street in the curb lane. The driver of the Echo was unable to avoid the collision and struck the skateboarder.

The injured skateboarder, a 16-year-old female from Goderich was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. She has since been released from hospital and is recovering at home.

The investigation is still ongoing.
