(MITCHELL, ON) -Members of the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a male party on Albert Street in Mitchell Ontario at 1:20 a.m. this morning for suspicion of impaired driving.
During the arrest the male party became combative, assaulted police and resisted arrest. The actions of the suspect caused police to deploy use of force at which point the arrest was affected without further incident. He was taken to the Sebringville OPP for breath tests.
After providing breath samples, the accused began complaining of pain in his chest and side. Police immediately took him to Stratford General Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The provinces Special Investigation Unit (SIU) was notified by the OPP and has invoked its mandate. Further inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at 1-416-622.2342.
The accused has been identified by the OPP as 55-year-old Kenneth ECKENSWILLER from Mitchell, Ontario. He is charged with;
Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest – 270(1)(b) CC
Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle – 253(1)(a) CC
Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood Alcohol Content / Motor Vehicle 253(1)(b) CC
He is scheduled to appear in Stratford Provincial Court on December 3, 2012 to answer to the charges.
