SIU Invokes Mandate

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – On December 3, 2019, at approximately 6:40 p.m., members of the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment and firefighters from the South Huron Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at a residence located on Simcoe Street in Exeter.

Upon entry onto the property, officers had a confrontation with a male in which he sustained serious injuries. The male was transported from the scene to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Members of the Huron County OPP Major Crime Unit, OPP West Region Criminal Operations under the direction of Detective Inspector Pete Liptrott of OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) are currently investigating.

The OPP has notified the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which has invoked its mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide any further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342.
