Occurrence #: BA14025878
Date: Thursday, June 5, 2014 – 8:05pm
A 37 year old Barrie man and a 26 year old Barrie woman attended a south-end box store with a master plan. The couple parked next to the store and covered their licence plates with fast-food napkins. This raised the suspicion of the people in the area, including two on-duty undercover Ontario Provincial Police officers. The male then entered the store and filled shopping bags full of airsoft guns, generic clothing, headphones and speakers. The value of the items was $1450. The male then burst out the emergency exit, setting off the alarm, to the female operating the “paper plated†get-away car. The officers identified themselves and confronted the suspects. The male swung one of his merchandise filled bags, striking the officer in the head. A struggle ensued. Barrie Police were called and responded. The female tried to flee and was arrested after a brief skirmish. Neither officer required medical attention. Barrie Police suspect that with the basic hooded clothing and replica firearms, the couple were likely going to continue on their crime spree. The male was on probation not to attend that store from a previous incident. The male was charged with Theft Under $5000, Breach of Probation (three counts) and Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon with Intent to Resist Arrest. The female was charged with Theft Under $5000 and Resisting Arrest. Both were held for a bail hearing.
