(CENTRAL HURON, ON) – A 25 year old male from Central Huron is facing several charges following an incident that took place in Clinton on May 6, 2013. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a Joseph Street residence shortly after 9:00 p.m. after a property owner discovered a fire had started in his garage. The owner was able to douse out the fire before the fire caused extensive damage.
The perpetrator forced entry into the garage, intentionally started the fire inside the garage and proceeded to steal some alcohol. An OPP canine unit attended along with OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) members. At approximately 11:30 p.m. officers located and arrested the perpetrator in Clinton.
Further investigation revealed the male was responsible for two unrelated crimes. Police learned the male was responsible for a mischief to a Ford Explorer that was parked at a residence located on James Street in Clinton. Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on April 18, 2013 the accused smashed out the windows of the Explorer.
Also, it was learned he committed a break, enter and theft on May 2, 2013. The accused entered a Huron Street residence and stole a gaming system, video games and movies.
As a result of the police investigation, Shawn THOMPSON, 25, from Central Huron has been charged with two counts of Break and Enter to Commit an Indictable Offence contrary to section 348 (1) (b) Criminal Code, Arson contrary to section 433 (a) Criminal Code, Theft Under $5,000 contrary to section 334 (b) Criminal Code and Mischief Under $5,000 contrary to section 430 (4) Criminal Code. He remains in custody.
