Shalene PETERS – Prohibited Weapon, Breach, etc.

(HURON EAST, ON) – A 27 year old female is facing numerous Criminal Code and Provincial Offences Act charges after a traffic stop that took place on November 2, 2014. Just after 7:00 p.m. a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer observed a Dodge Neon travelling eastbound on Cranbrook Road near Brussels Line. Upon stopping the driver the officer determined the novice driver was not accompanied by a qualified driver. The officer also noticed the attached licence plates and validation sticker affixed to the plate were stolen.

The driver was subsequently arrested and a search incident to arrest was completed. Inside the vehicle police located a conducted energy weapon. This prohibited weapon is more commonly known as a “stun gun” or “Taser”. Further checks revealed the vehicle was not insured and the driver was failing to comply with terms of her probation sentence.

As a result, 27 year old Shalene PETERS from Stratford has been charged with the following Criminal Code charges: Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Occupant of a Motor Vehicle Knowing a Prohibited Weapon Inside, Fail to Comply with Probation Order and two counts of Possession of Property Under $5,000. In addition to the criminal charges she is facing the following Provincial Offences Act charges: Fail to Stop at Nearest Edge of Roadway for Emergency Vehicle, Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle, Class G1 Licence Holder – Unaccompanied by Qualified Driver, Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle, Fail to Notify Change of Address and Operate Motor Vehicle without insurance.

She has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for November 24, 2014 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
