Several Thefts From Vehicles In Goderich

(GODERICH, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is encouraging property owners to protect their property following several recent thefts from motor vehicles in the Town of Goderich.

Over the last few weeks OPP officers in Goderich have responded to several thefts from motor vehicles. Essentially thieves are targeting unlocked vehicles looking to steal items consisting primarily of electronics such as GPS systems, sunglasses, CDs, loose change and other valuables that may be left in the vehicle.

Just after 9:00 a.m. a homeowner on Bennett Street West heard the sound of their vehicle horn go off so they went to check on it in the unlocked garage. Upon checking their vehicle they noticed someone had entered their unlocked vehicle and stole $300 worth of property consisting of a GPS system, some sunglasses and some CDs.

A search of the area was conducted however the thief was not located.

Here are some tips on how you can secure your property and prevent becoming the next victim

Lock your vehicle when left un-attended; activate alarm systems if you have one.

Close windows and sunroof when leaving a vehicle unattended.

Don’t leave your vehicle running if unattended, even for a second.

Park in a well-lit area if possible.

Don’t leave valuables in your vehicle. If you can’t take them with you, lock them safely out of view.

If you have a garage, park inside. Make sure to keep vehicle and garage doors locked.

If your vehicle is broken into or stolen contact police as soon as possible.

Thefts of motor vehicles and thefts from motor vehicles are predominantly a crime of opportunity. Please help us prevent these types of crime by following the above recommendations.
