Serious Crash Involving Horse Drawn Vehicle – 10 Injured – 2 Airlifted To Hospital

(MINTO TWP, ON) On Thursday June 6, 2013 at approximately 12:15am officers from the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a serious motor vehicle collision involving a horse drawn vehicle and a car on Highway 9 just south of County Rd. 2 in Minto Twp.

Firefighters from the Clifford Fire Department along with paramedics from Guelph-Wellington, Bruce, Perth and Grey County Emergency Services (EMS) also attended the scene.

A 2012 Volkswagon GTI was travelling north bound on Highway 9, south of Clifford when it collided with a horse drawn vehicle that was also travelling northbound.

There were 10 people inside the buggy at the time of the collision ranging in age from 2 years old to 45 years old. Five people were transported to Listowell Hospital and five were transported to the Palmerston Hospital two of which were later transported by air ambulances to hospitals in London and Hamilton.

The male driver of the Volkswagon was not injured.

The OPP West Region Technical Collision Investigation Unit attended the scene to assist with the investigation, which is in the early stages.

Highway 9 remains closed between County Rd. 2 and the 14th Line of Minto Twp.

The horse was uninjured.
