Serious Collision In Owen Sound Sends 4 To Hospital

At approximately 4:16 p.m. police, fire & ambulance were tiered via 911 to attend the intersection of 3rd Avenue East at 15th Street East in Owen Sound regarding a serious motor vehicle collision.

Owen Sound Fire and Rescue were required to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the 23 year old driver of a Ford Taurus which had been t-boned by a Hummer. The force of the impact caused the Ford’s driver’s side doors to collapse upon the driver, pinning her within the automobile. A 20 year old passenger in the Ford and her 7 month old infant exited the vehicle on their own, and were transported by ambulance to hospital. The infant had not been secured within a child restraint seat, and quite fortunately ended up with minor scrapes only. His mother remained uninjured. The driver of the Taurus was successfully extricated and transported to hospital with injuries to her hip and abrasions to her upper body.

The 55 year old driver of the Hummer was transported to hospital with undetermined injuries causing her to black out. At last check she had regained consciousness and medical staff was determining the extent of her injuries.

Investigation revealed the Ford’s driver was westbound on 15th Street East, stopped at the stop sign at 3rd Avenue East, and attempted a turn, blocking the path of the Hummer. The Ford is written off, while the Hummer received moderate damage. The intersection was closed for just over an hour.

Charges are pending against the driver of the Ford Taurus.
