(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) On Thursday 30 August 2012 at 7:15 p.m., Perth County OPP officers were dispatched to a single motor vehicle crash on Perth Line 36 west of O’Loane Ave.
Investigation revealed that a west bound Pontiac Grand Am had been travelling on Perth Line 36 when the driver was distracted and the vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle struck a hydro pole on the north side of Perth Line 36 (in front of Stock Auction). The vehicle continued west bound and struck 3 trees on the north side of the road before finally coming to a stop.
The lone male driver, a 40 year old London resident was extricated from the vehicle by the Stratford Fire Department. He was transported by Perth County Ambulance to Stratford General Hospital with minor injuries.
The broken hydro pole and extensively damage lines, resulted in Hydro One to request closure of the road. Perth Line 36 between Road 125 and Road 122 (O’Loane) remained closed from the time of the collision until 10:15 a.m. on Friday August 31 when repairs were completed.
The driver was thankful for the seatbelt which saved his life. He admitted to never wearing his seatbelt until a few weeks earlier when he received a ticket for failing to wear it. He now is a believer. As a result of this crash the driver was charged with careless driving.
