Seatbelt Campaign Continues In Perth County

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Friday morning September 28, 2012, Perth County OPP officers were conducting “seatbelt enforcement checks” along Perth Road 180 in Dublin, when they observed the passenger in a pickup truck not wearing a seatbelt.

The truck was pulled over at which time it was discovered that two children were seated between the driver and passenger. A 3 year old child was buckled in with a lap belt while a 6 year old child had no seatbelt.

The 35 year old male driver from Brussels was charged with “fail to ensure toddler properly secured”, and with “fail to ensure child properly secured”. Both of these violations carry a $200 fine (plus surcharges) and 2 demerit points. The passenger was charged with “fail to properly wear seat belt”.

The driver called for someone to deliver the proper car seats to his location allowing them to continue on their journey.

Motorists are urged to comply with the seatbelt legislation and ensure that passengers under the age of 16 are properly secured with the appropriate child car seat, booster seat or seatbelt.

Seatbelt enforcement continues all year round, but the Fall Seatbelt Enforcement Campaign will last until Saturday October 6, 2012.
