On September 28, 2012, the Guelph Police Service commenced an investigation after it was reported that a child encountered a suspicious male in the area of Lyon Park. Police received information that between 3:30 p.m., and 3:50 p.m., an eight-year-old female walking through the park and was spoken to by an unknown male. At the time, the male was parked in a yellow pickup truck parked on Boult Avenue, Guelph. The young female indicated that the male initiated a conversation with her requesting assistance in finding his dog. The child left the area and reported it to Police. The vehicle was last seen leaving the area going eastbound onto York Road from Boult Avenue.
An investigative team was assembled, and a suspect was identified.
On October 4, 2012, Scott Harris, 36 years of Guelph was arrested at a trailer in West Montrose. The accused is charged with Attempt Abduction of Person under 14, Attempt Kidnapping and Criminal Harassment. He will appear in bail court in Guelph on October 5, 2012.
It is alleged that the accused, who is a stranger to the victim, attempted to coax the child into his vehicle. The victim suffered no physical injuries and there was no physical contact between the victim and the accused. The investigation is continuing.
