(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH EAST, ON) – On Wednesday September 23, 2015 around 8:30 a.m., Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to a collision at the intersection of Hwy 7/8 and Road 110, involving a school bus and a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).
Investigation revealed that the school bus was stopped in the north bound lane on Road 110 when it proceeded to make a left turn (west bound) onto Hwy 7/8. The school bus turned directly into the path of an east bound SUV travelling in the east bound lane of Hwy 7/8. The SUV driver was unable to avoid the school bus and collided with the bus impacting near the driver’s side front tire of the bus.
The 54-year-old male operator of the SUV, a resident of Stratford sustained minimal injuries as a result of the collision. The Female driver of the school bus and the sole passenger, a 7 year old female student, did not sustain injuries.
The school bus driver, 44-year-old Andrea CARNEGIE of Stratford has been charged with “fail to yield to traffic on through highway”, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.
Traffic on Highway 7/8 was blocked for a short period of time to allow for the safe removal of vehicles and debris from the highway.
