(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce OPP has received reports from 2 seniors that were scammed for a combined total of $3,250. On February 4th, 2012 a resident from the Municipality of Kincardine sent $2,350 to help her grandson in Montreal. On February 3rd, 2012 at 1:49 pm, 3 males using the company name of Bruce Dredge Construction, collected $900 from a resident of Huron Kinloss for chimney repairs. Both the “home renovation scam†and the “grandparent scam†have been operating for a long time. Both scams target seniors who are honest, trusting and living on a fixed income. Technology allows scammers to become more creative and gather background information on their “victims†before they make contact. Friends, families and care givers are asked to help spread the word on seniors’ fraud. No one enjoying their retirement years deserves to be targeted by con artists. For more information on fraud, contact the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre at 1 888 495 8501 or online at http://www.antifraudcentre.ca.
