(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) A Mitchell resident contacted the Perth County OPP reporting concerns she had a male party she had been communicating with on a singles web site for about a week.
The male identifying himself with a very common North American name had been building a trust relationship with the female. The male had been so convincing that the female provided the male with her actual birth date, address and telephone number. The male then proceeded in requesting that the female send him $500 by means of a common money transfer company. The money was to be sent to an address in San Francisco California. The male also provided the female with an address in Nigeria and used a hotmail account for his e-mail address.
The female did not forward the money and she was advised by police to notify her financial institution of the incident in case of identity theft.
The public is reminded to beware of singles web sites since people online are often not who they purport to be. DO NOT DIVULGE PERSONAL INFORMATION!
