(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – On November 10, 2012 at 8:49 pm, the South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of an attempted phone scam from a resident in the Municipality of Kincardine. The caller suggested that they were collecting money to support the Kincardine area scouts. A call to the Kincardine Scouting commissioner confirmed that Kincardine Scouts are not fundraising at this time.
The South Bruce OPP is reminding residents to be cautious with unsolicited phone “canvassersâ€Â. Unsolicited means that you didn’t ask for it; if you didn’t place the call, then how do you know the caller is legitimate? Modern day scammers have access to a great deal of information online and will often suggest they are with a well known company to gain your trust and get your money.
