(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – On March 6th, 2012 at 10:33 am, the South Bruce OPP received a complaint of an email scam received by a resident of Huron Kinloss Township. The email was designed to look like it was sent from the Bank of Montreal and contained a hyperlink to another site that requested banking information. The South Bruce OPP is warning all residents to pay close attention to unsolicited emails. Advances in technology allow tech savvy con artists to develop very convincing scams. The bank that you deal with has all your information on file, why would they send you a message asking for what they already have? If you receive an email like this, don’t respond – contact your local branch and verify that they want to speak with you. You work hard for your money; don’t throw it away by giving it to a con artist. Anyone interested in more information on fraud can call the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre at 1 888 495 8501 or check online at http://www.antifraudcentre.ca.
