(GODERICH, ON) On December 5, 2011 a Goderich resident received a phone call from a scammer requesting donations to the “Children Services Christmas Bureau Fundâ€Â. The scammer requested a credit card number to complete the donation.
The recipient of the call became suspicious and hung up the phone. A reverse look up on the phone number determined the call originated from the Ottawa area. Further checks are ongoing to determine the identity of the caller.
The Huron-Perth Children’s Aid Society will not ask for your credit card number over the phone for donations to their Christmas bureau fund. Protect yourself from being a victim of a scam; do not provide personal and banking information over the phone when you receive unsolicited telephone calls.
