Scam Alert

(SOUTHERN BRUCE COUNTY, ON) – The South Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has received a number of reports involving scam attempts across the detachment area. Sent by fax, email and regular mail, the message describes a plan to invest a million dollar inheritance “in your country”. The overseas “investor” claims to be looking for someone to help by providing name, address, date of birth and banking information so the large sum of money can be deposited to your account. Originally known as the “Nigerian Scam”, this particular scam has been around for a long time. In the most recent incidents reported to police, the author claims to be from the Country of Ghana. Upon receiving your personal information, the “investor” takes your money and moves on to the next victim.

Fraud is a multi billion dollar enterprise that will continue as long as the scammers make money.
