Saugeen Shores Police Press Releases 28Sept2015 – 05Oct2015

28 Sep 2015,

2:12 pm a 21 year old Saugeen Shores male was arrested by police on outstanding warrants for Theft Under and Possession of Stolen Property.

6:28 pm police responded to a gas drive off at the Petro Can gas bar in Port Elgin. A licence plate number was acquired and the bill was paid.

29 Sep 2015,

4:11 am police responded to a report of a break and enter at a residence where the responsible parties were believed to still be inside. The residence was searched and no one was found inside. But, four small marihuana plants that were hanging to dry were located. The plants were seized and destroyed, no charges, no break and enter.

30 Sep 2015,

10:35 pm police responded to the Arlington Apartments at 625 Goderich St Port Elgin to a report of the smoke alarm sounding at a second floor apartment. The complainant felt the occupant was in the apartment because her vehicle was in the parking lot. The Saugeen Shores Fire Service was called. The officers could detect the odour of smoke through the door. Police kicked the door in and once the door opened the heavy smoke from the apartment filled the hallway and set off the main fire alarm for the apartment building. Officers located a burning pan on the stove, turned off the stove and used a fire extinguisher to put out the burning pan. The officers searched the smoke filled apartment and located a 56 year old woman unresponsive but breathing laying half on a bed. The two officers dragged the female out into the hall where she was taken by ambulance to the hospital. The officers searched the rest of the apartment for other occupants but none were found. One of the officers was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation and released. The female was admitted to hospital with smoke inhalation. The actions of the complainant and the police officers clearly saved the life of this woman.

1 Oct 2015,

5:45 pm a white Ford F250 with a trailer of six ATV’s pulled up to the gas bar at the Independent Grocer. The ATV’s were filled up and the three males left without paying. No licence plate was obtained. Police are investigating.

2 Oct 2015,

12:26 pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision at the Independent Grocer parking lot. The damage was minor and the two owners settled it between themselves.

3 Oct 2015,

5:49 pm police responded to a report of an intoxicated male on a bicycle near the New Fairway park. A 34 year old Saugeen Shores male was found to be intoxicated and could not care for himself. The male was found to be violating conditions of a previous release on other charges and was arrested. He was later released and turned over to his parents.

4 Oct 2015,

2:49 pm police responded to a shoplifting complaint at the Dollarama. A licence plate was obtained and the 64 year old Saugeen Shores man was located and was trespassed from the store.

A hate crime was previously investigated by the Saugeen Shores Police on the 31st of July 2015.

31 July 2015 at 12:05 pm, sometime overnight someone pinned what is believed to be satanic symbols on two pieces of paper to a front door of a residence in Port Elgin. Police are investigating this matter as a hate crime. Anyone with information on this matter is asked to call police at 519-832-9200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Through investigation police were able to obtain fingerprints and DNA from the paper and thread used to stitch these papers together. Several interviews were conducted and on the 3rd of October 2015 police arrested a 20 year old Saugeen Shores male for Mischief and Breach of Probation.
