Saugeen Shores Police Press Releases 21Sept – 27Sept2015

September 21, 2015

Police received a report of a fraud. The victim received a phone call at home and the caller convinced her that someone had used her credit card. The victim logged onto her computer and gave access to the caller. The caller then made it appear that money had been transferred into her bank account. The transferred money, unknown to the victim, had actually been transferred from her own credit card. The victim was then convinced to go to Western Union and send money to a person in China. This was completed. There was another transfer of money and another request to send funds via Western Union. The victim then became suspicious and contacted her bank and the police. The funds send via Western Union are not recoverable. Be suspicious of unsolicited calls. Do not log onto your computer at the request of a caller, attend your bank in person or contact police for advice.

September 22, 2015

At 3:20pm, a person on a scooter was struck by a car at the intersection of Arlington and Gustavus Streets. There were no injuries. No charge was laid.

A bicycle was stolen from in front of Shopper’s Drug Mart during the day. The missing bike is described as a blue men’s mountain bike.

At 8:00pm, police attended at Walmart in regards to a theft complaint. A loss prevention officer apprehended a female leaving the store with unpaid for merchandise. A female, age 41, from Tara has been charged with Theft.

September 23, 2015

Police received complaints about two vehicles damaged in the 700 block of Wellington Street in Port Elgin. A black tar or paint like substance was poured on the vehicles and one was also hit by eggs.

Police are investigating an assault. Three young boys were riding their bikes home after school and were riding through a private property on North Rankin Street. The boys were confronted by an adult while on the property and it is alleged that the adult male was yelling and then pushed one of the boys off of his bike. The incident is still under investigation.

September 24, 2015

Police investigated an assault that occurred outside of Saugeen District Secondary School. The victim, age 17, alleged that the accused, age 16, assaulted him by punching him in the face and burning him with a cigarette. The accused youth has been charged with Assault and Assault with a Weapon.

Police received another complaint of fraud. The victim received a phone call early in the morning and was convinced that the caller was from her bank. The victim logged on to her computer and the caller was able to gain access to her bank account. A large sum of money was transferred out of the account. The victim became suspicious and contacted her bank. Fortunately the money transfer was able to be reversed.

September 26, 2015

A break, enter and theft was reported at 1020 Goderich Street. The building is under renovation and the complainant reported the theft of shovels, garden rakes and restaurant equipment.

Police discovered the stop sign post broken off at the intersection of Highland and Joseph Streets. Later in the day a citizen reported the stop sign at the intersection of Parkwood and Bruce Streets missing. These incidents are being investigated as a mischief and a theft and could easily have had tragic consequences.
