Saugeen Shores Police Press Releases 17Aug – 23Aug2015

17 Aug 2015,

10:40 am a resident received a call from a person claiming to be from an organization investigating a sex crime and demanded money or she would be arrested. No money was given. Always be aware and cautious when receiving phone calls telling you that you have a problem and if you give them money they can make it go away.

The latest hacking of the Ashley Madison membership information has sparked many fraudsters to jump on that wagon to defraud people of their money. There will always be opportunities and scams out there, don’t be a victim to them. Hang up the phone, don’t respond to emails and delete them. When you get a letter from a lawyer wanting to split money with you from a long lost relative of yours, shred it. You would know if you had a rich relative. Save your money.

I hate to say it but summer is nearing an end and school is around the corner. We need to operate our vehicles safely all the time but we need to pay close attention during school time. Children cycling and walking to school, school buses and parents driving their kids all create circumstances where we need to be very cautious.

Parents should be having a talk with their children about safe routes to school, bicycle safety and wearing a helmet, obeying crossing guards, not running onto the streets and to remain seated in a school bus.

When driving always be cautious around crosswalks, school zones and school buses. Do not pass a school bus when the bus is stopped, signals flashing and the stop sign out. Wait until persons are fully across and out of the pedestrian crosswalk and obey crossing guards.

As always, Drive Safe.
