27 Feb 2017,

12:20 am police conducted a vehicle stop in Port Elgin and recognized one of the occupants to be wanted on outstanding warrants. A 36 year old Bognor male was arrested on two warrants from Owen Sound Police and one from Algoma OPP. While being searched at the police station the male put a small baggie in his mouth and tried to chew and swallow it. Police removed the baggie and it contained approximately 2 grams of methamphetamine. The male was bound by three different probation orders and was charged for breaching his probation. He was further charged with breaching a recognizance and possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking. He was held for a bail hearing.

5:00 pm police attended to a downtown Port Elgin bar where a patron was causing a problem and refusing to leave. The 29 year old Saugeen Shores male was found to be breaching a recognizance by consuming alcohol and being in a place alcohol was sold. The male was held for a bail hearing.

5:20 pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision at Goderich and Gustavus St. A vehicle was stopped at a red light east on Gustavus at a red light at Goderich St. Another vehicle backed from a parking spot into the stopped vehicle.

28 Feb 2017,

Police conducted RIDE in Southampton, no violations.

10:08 pm police responded to a report of a break and enter at a residence in Saugeen Shores. After investigation it was found that a female party went to a house to recover some money owed to her. She banged on the door until it broke in and inside assaulted a male. A 40 year old Saugeen Shores female was arrested and charged with break and enter, assault and mischief.

2 March 2017,

A computer scam was reported to police. This scam involves someone hacking into your computer and creating a condition where the screen is frozen and a phone number pops up to fix it. The person is requested to pay an amount somewhere around $300 to $400 to fix the problem. This is a scam. Unplug your computer and bring it in to a local computer repair person to have it fixed.

4 March 2017,

10:17 am police responded to a break and enter at a Southampton seasonal residence. Sometime between 24 February and 4 March 2017 culprit(s) broke into the residence by breaking a window. A 12 gauge shotgun and two .22 cal rifles were stolen. A neighbour recalls a red 4 door car in the laneway on February 28 around 8:00 pm the vehicle was there for 20 minutes and left. Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.

5 March 2017,

3:56 pm police received a report of an attempted fraud of some-ones bank account. Someone hacked into an email account and tried to request a money transfer. This was noted immediately and the complainant changed his passwords.

These days with technology changing rapidly, apps being developed and our children having their own cell phones at a younger and younger age we need to be cautious. Don’t be afraid of this technology but educate yourself and your children of the downfalls.

Anything you post on the internet or send in a text, a photo, video or comment will be out there somewhere forever. As soon as you push send you lose control of where it will go. I remember someone once saying don’t post or send anything on the internet you would not want to see on the front page of a newspaper.

Have these conversations with your children. You are not infringing on their rights you are protecting them, that is your job as a parent.
