Saugeen Shores Police Press Release 24May – 29May2016

24 May 2016,

3:46 pm an off duty police officer observed a male person on the bridge in Southampton acting in an erratic manner. The male was carrying a stick resembling a baseball bat. He had placed his belongings on the sidewalk. Police attended and the male was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to the Southampton Hospital for assessment.

25 May 2016,

11:20 am police responded to Centennial Pool to a report of a theft. Approximately $100 cash was taken from the petty cash box. Police are investigating.

26 May 2016,

2:10 am police were on general patrol in Port Elgin when the officer operating a cruiser was flashed in the face from a high powered laser pointer causing temporary blindness to the officer. A 14 year old Saugeen Shores male was cautioned in regards to assault with a weapon. He and his mother were cautioned about the potential harmful effects it could have on someone’s vision. The laser was seized for destruction.

5:23 pm police responded to the Independent Grocer in regards to a shoplifting incident. A 32 year old Saugeen Shores woman returned the stolen property and was trespassed from the store.

27 May 2016,

10:01 am police attended to Saugeen Bluffs where a cash box containing approximately $120 in cash was stolen. Police are investigating.

28 May 2016,

3:03 am police investigated an assault at a Port Elgin residence. As a result a 24 year old Saugeen Shores male was arrested and charged with Assault times 3, Uttering Threats, Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon, Breach of Undertaking and Theft Under. The male was released by the courts.

2:03 pm, police responded to a call of a vehicle idling in the Giant Tiger parking lot with a baby (6 months) in a car seat and a dog inside unattended. Police arrived found the vehicle to be unlocked and placed the baby and dog into the cruiser. The vehicle was running with the air conditioning on but the vehicle was still warm inside. A witness who called said she had been waiting for the owner of the vehicle to return for about 25 minutes prior to calling police. The mother of the infant showed up 7 minutes after police arrival. The baby and dog are healthy and safe. Police are investigating potential charges.
