Saugeen Shores Police Press Release 18April – 24April2016

April 18, 2016

Police received information on a person who was breaching the terms of his probation. After investigation, the male was arrested by the Barrie Police Service. Saugeen Shores Police charged the male, age 29, from Barrie, with 3 counts of failing to comply with probation. The male was held for a show cause hearing.

April 19, 2016

In the morning, radar speed enforcement was conducted in a couple of traffic complaint areas, Bruce Road 33 and on Wellington Street. One driver was cautioned for speeding.

A resident contacted police to report an attempted fraud. The complainant received a realistic looking letter purporting to be from the Canada Revenue Agency and indicating that the complainant owed $6300. He contacted the CRA and learned that it was a fraud attempt.

April 20, 2016

Radar speed enforcement was conducted on complaint areas at Concession 10 and on Biener Drive. One driver was cautioned for speeding.

April 21, 2016

At 1:30pm, police received a report of a suspicious male on Bruce Street in Port Elgin. Police attended and located and spoke with the male and determined that all was in order.

At 6:30pm, police received a complaint of a gas drive-off at the Independent Gas Bar. The offending vehicle was a silver Saturn SUV. The incident is still under investigation.

April 22, 2016

At 3:30am, police received a report of a suspicious person possibly going through cars in the area of Ivings Drive. The person was described as being in his 30’s, and wearing a red baseball hat. Police attended but were unable to locate anyone. There were no reports of thefts from cars in the area but later in the day a bike was reported stolen from an apartment building on Ivings Drive. The bike is described as a Giant Rebel mountain bike, dark green and grey in colour with white brake cables.

Police received a complaint about an offensive video that was received through Facebook Messenger. The complainant received the video from a casual acquaintance. Police investigated and determined that charges would not be laid. The sender was cautioned that any further contact could result in Criminal Harassment charges.

At 8:30pm, police attended at a car vs deer motor vehicle collision on the Bruce Saugeen Town line.

April 23, 2016

Police were dispatched to a complaint about an intoxicated person. Police attended and located the intoxicated person in a common area of a group of apartments. Police determined that the male needed hospital attention. He was arrested and transported to Southampton Hospital where he was treated and released back to police. The male, age 21 years, was then escorted home and turned over to his father.

April 24, 2016

At 1:00am, police attended at a residence on Victoria Street to assist Bruce County EMS. A female attending a party required medical attention after apparently consuming a combination of alcohol and illicit drugs. A 16 year old female from Owen Sound was taken to hospital and held overnight before being released. Police officers investigated a male at the party and seized 42.9 grams of marihuana. The male, age 21, from Williamsford, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.

At 1:30am, police were dispatched to a mischief complaint. Police attended at 273 Mill Street where someone had thrown a piece of concrete through a double pane glass window. The matter is still under investigation.

A black Huffy bicycle was found on Elgin Street.

A 6 rotor drone was lost in the area of Grey Street in Southampton. If found, please contact Saugeen Shores Police.

At 8:00pm, police received a complaint of a vehicle doing donuts in the area of the Port Elgin water tower. Police attended and located the vehicle but no occupants. The registered owner was contacted and will deal with his son, who was the driver.
