Saugeen Shores Police Press Release – 13Oct – 18Oct2015

October 13, 2015

At 9:39pm, police were dispatched to a residence on Market Street in regards to an unwanted person. A female had shown up at the residence and pushed her way inside. Police investigated and determined that the female, age 27, was failing to comply with previous release conditions. She was charged with Failing to comply with Probation and Failing to comply with a Recognizance.

October 14, 2015

At 2:22 am, police received a complaint about a male who was driving a motor home on Goderich Street in Port Elgin. The vehicle was stopped by police and the driver, a male, age 38, from Manitoba, was found to be under the influence of alcohol. The driver failed a roadside screening device test. He was taken to the Police Station where he refused to provide a breath sample. He has been charged with Failing or Refusing to Provide a Breath Sample.

At 8:30pm, police received a complaint of a bicycle stolen from outside the Harvey’s Restaurant in Port Elgin. The bike is a blue Supercycle mountain bike.

At 11:59pm, police attended to a disturbance outside the Tim Horton’s on Gustavus Street in Port Elgin. One male was taken to hospital and suffered a broken nose and required stitches. The other involved male had fled the scene. The incident is still under investigation.

October 15, 2015

At 3:45pm, police were requested to attend Saugeen District Secondary School in regards to a physical altercation between two students. The incident occurred on a school bus. The incident is still under investigation.

At 8:30pm, police received a complaint of a fraud. The victim reported that she received a call from a male claiming to be with the Canada Revenue Agency. He was able to convince the victim that she had been audited and owed $4600 in taxes. She was advised to purchase $4600 worth of prepaid Visa cards and then provide the codes from the back of each card to the caller. The victim did this but then became suspicious and realized she was the victim of a fraud. Police were able to assist the victim in recovering a portion of the lost money. She had been convinced that the call was legitimate because the caller knew some personal information. It was likely that this information was learned from her Facebook account.

October 18, 2015

Police received a report of a theft from a motel on Goderich Street in Port Elgin. Overnight approximately $200 was stolen from a cash drawer.

At 3:00pm, police attended at Walmart to assist store security in a theft investigation. A female, age 18 and a male, age 18, both from Saugeen Shores and a female, age 19 from Barrie had been arrested by store security. The items stolen included food snacks and clothing with a total value of $80. The three accused were given appearance notices to appear in criminal court and have been charged with Theft.

At 11:30pm, police responded to an assault complaint at the Mac’s Convenience store on Goderich Street. On arrival, the complainant refused to speak to police. It was determined that the two involved persons knew each other and both had been consuming alcohol. The other involved person was found to be breaching a no alcohol condition and has been charged with Failing to Comply with a Probation Order.
