Saugeen Shores Police Press Release 13Feb – 19Feb2017

February 13, 2017

Police received two reports of theft from vehicles. The thefts occurred in the area of Waterloo and James Streets. A small amount of change and a cellphone was stolen from one of the vehicles and approximately $10 from the other vehicle. Both vehicles had been left unlocked.

At 9:30pm, R.I.D.E. checks were conducted on Railway Street. There were no violations.

February 14, 2017

A resident fell victim to a computer pop-up fraud. While using the computer a pop-up message indicated that the computer had been hacked. The victim then contacted a phone number and provided a credit card authorization to remove the virus and allowed access to the computer. The credit card has been cancelled but the victim is out $200 in US funds.

Police received another report of a fraud. The victim was searching the internet for accommodation in Germany. A money order was sent to cover a deposit and first month’s rent. The complainant then realized that this was a fraud.

Police received a complaint of mischief at the Missionary Church on Green Street. Graffiti had been sprayed on the wall in red paint. The graffiti included the words “Bloodz”, “Braze”, “Brazyn” and “Blood Gang”. The incident is under investigation.

February 15, 2017

Police attended at a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Elgin and Waterloo Streets. A driver was with charged Disobey Stop Sign under the Highway Traffic Act.

Police received a report of a lost ring. The ring is described as white gold with a diamond in a 4 claw setting.

Police are investigating a shoplifting incident at the Port Elgin LCBO. A bottle of liquor was stolen but the male was not identified at the time of the incident. Video surveillance is being obtained to try to identify the suspect.

At 8:00pm police attended at a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Elgin and Waterloo Streets. Both drivers had minor injuries. One of the vehicles had failed to stop for the stop sign resulting in the collision. The driver was found to have consumed alcohol and subsequently failed a roadside screening test. She was arrested and taken to the Police Station for breath tests which were found to be over the legal limit. A female, age 30, from Saugeen Shores has been charged with Driving with Over the Legal Limit and with Disobey Stop Sign.

February 17, 2017

Police are investigating an incident in which a young female was asked to send pictures of herself to an older male. Further information is being obtained in order to continue the investigation.

A break and enter to a cottage on Beach Road was reported to police. The owner found the door unlocked and a broken window. Nothing was noticed missing but a bed appeared to have been slept in.

Police are investigating a disturbance that occurred off the ice at the Winterhawks game. After the game there was an altercation between a player and a fan. This occurred in the area where the visiting players leave the ice. The incident is under investigation. Any witnesses to the incident are asked to contact the Saugeen Shores Police.

February 18, 2017

At 10:10pm, police apprehended a young person who was found to be breaching the curfew conditions of his probation order. The youth was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance. He was held in custody for a show cause hearing.

February 19, 2017

At 11:30pm, police responded to a call about an intoxicated person damaging a vehicle in the parking lot at Tim Horton’s in Port Elgin. The male, apparently unprovoked, started kicking the vehicle and then broke the side view mirror completely off the vehicle. Police attended and the male resisted arrest and threatened police and the victim. A male, age 22 years, from Saugeen Shores was arrested and has been charged with 3 counts of Uttering Threats, Resisting Arrest, Causing a Disturbance and Mischief.
