Saugeen Shores Police Press Release 09May – 15May2016

9 May 2016,

12:49 pm a vehicle was east on Concession #6, swerved across the center line and struck a tree that was 30 meters off the roadway. This action was observed by an OPP officer. The lone occupant was taken to Saugeen Hospital and treated for minor injuries. A Saugeen Shores Police officer trained as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) charged the 23 year old Paisley man with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle by drug.

6:28 pm police received complaint of an email fraud. The email requested she confirm or correct an E-transfer of funds but it happened to be from a bank the victim does not deal with. Banks do not correspond with clients by email. Delete the email, ignore the call, shred the letter and do not be scammed.

11:37 pm police responded to a 911 call. After investigation a 35 year old Saugeen Shores man was arrested for assault, breaching a recognizance and failing to comply with a probation order. He was held for a bail hearing in Walkerton.

10 May 2016,

Officers continue to deliver the DARE program at Saugeen Shores elementary schools.

6:41 pm police responded to a report of discarded hypodermic needles at Fisherman’s Park. Police located eight needles and seized them for proper disposal.

7:06 pm police responded to a shoplifting complaint at Walmart. After investigation a 50 year old Saugeen Shores man was charged with theft under $5000 and a further charge of Possession of Property obtained by crime. The stolen property was recovered and consisted mainly of clothing and drinks.

8:26 pm police charged a 34 year old Saugeen Shores male with speeding 166 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on the Bruce Saugeen Town Line. The man was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with speeding over 50 km/h over the posted limit. As a result his vehicle was seized and impounded for seven days and his driver’s licence was suspected for seven days.

11 May 2016,

12:59 pm police received complaint of aggressive tactics used by door to door sales people. These people were located and found to be soliciting for furnace ventilation inspections. Remember you do not have to allow anyone into your home. If you are not comfortable please call police. These two were cautioned for their actions.

12 May 2016,

5:05 pm police arrested a 21 year old Saugeen Shores male for failing to appear in Walkerton court. The male was arrested on three outstanding warrants and held for a bail hearing.

8:43 pm police responded to an assault complaint. After investigation a 17 year old female was charged with assault and assault with a weapon.

14 May 2016,

1:15 am police responded to a report of an intoxicated male hanging about a downtown Port Elgin bar. The male was arrested for public intoxication and held at the police station until a relative came to pick him up.

7:40 pm police responded to a report that someone had found a cash box along the shoreline north of the Port Elgin harbour. The cashbox appears to be the same that was stolen from a pop machine previously. Police are investigating.

15 May 2016,

11:13 am police received a report of two vehicles being entered and theft from within on Sandy Acres Rd. Clothing, a knife, change, gift cards and an Iphone was stolen.
