Saugeen Shores Police Press Release 09Jan – 15Jan2017

January 9, 2017

Police received a report of $2000 cash missing from an apartment in Port Elgin. A suspect was identified and the incident is under investigation.

Police are investigating a theft of gas (drive-off) from the Circle K gas bar.

January 10, 2017

Police received a trespassing complaint from a business in Port Elgin. A male who had been previously notified not to attend the business was observed in the store. Charges are being laid under the Trespass to Property Act.

At 11:50am, police were advised of a student, age 8, who had left school without permission. Prior to police arrival the student returned to the school. She had left to visit a friend’s house during recess and didn’t realize the consequences.

Police responded to a break and enter to a residence on Victoria Street in Southampton. It is believed the incident occurred on January 8th. The missing items included a Samsung DVD player, pool cue and black case, foot massager and approximately $300 cash/coin. There were no signs of forced entry to the residence.

A fraud was reported to police. The complainant fell victim to the mystery shopper scam. She applied for employment as a mystery shopper and received a cheque with instructions to deposit the cheque and then wire transfer the money to another individual. It was later learned that the cheque was fraudulent and the victim is now out the money.

At 5:17pm, police received a traffic complaint about a possible impaired driver. The involved vehicle had crossed lanes on Goderich Street and almost struck another vehicle. The vehicle was located by police and the driver was found to exhibit signs of impairment by alcohol. Breath test results were two times the legal limit. A male, age 72 years, from Saugeen Shores has been charged with Drive over 80 mgs.

January 11, 2017

Police received a report of damage to a vehicle. The complainant found 9 roofing nails in one tire of her vehicle. On January 14th, police received another complaint in regards to roofing nails in a tire. The complainant found 10 roofing nails in one tire. The cause of both incidents is undetermined but it appears likely that the nails were driven over accidently while driving on Bricker Street.

January 12, 2017

Police attended a motor vehicle collision at 4:00pm on Goderich Street at Biener Drive. A vehicle turning from Biener Drive hit another vehicle which was southbound on Goderich Street. The collision resulted in moderate damages and minor injuries. A driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act.

January 14, 2017

Police received a report of a stolen vehicle, a 2009 Jeep Patriot, red in colour, licence CAJL073. The owner of the vehicle had allowed an acquaintance to use the vehicle but then it was not returned. The complainant and the police were able to contact the suspect but the vehicle was still not returned. An arrest warrant has obtained for a 31 year old female from the Brockton area.

A fail to remain accident was reported to police. The complainant reported that her vehicle had been parked on Johnston Avenue in Port Elgin throughout the day. It was later noticed that there was significant damage to the left rear corner of the vehicle. It is suspected that the damage may have occurred when another vehicle backed into the damaged vehicle. The damaged vehicle is a 2007 Honda minivan.

Saugeen Shores Police will be stepping up the number of RIDE checks. If you have been drinking, please keep yourself and others safe by not driving. Plan ahead and have a designated driver or take a taxi.
