11:59 am a youth was seen walking through fresh cement damaging the finish. The 14 year old was located and spoken to.
1:33 pm while a person was visiting a friend on Tyendinaga Dr the side of her vehicle was scratched and a bolt was imbedded in her tire. No suspects.
9 May 2017,
11:50 am two vehicles reversing in the municipal parking lot on Bricker St struck each other. No injuries but the damage was in excess of $2000.
11:52 am police investigated an assault that had occurred at a residence in Saugeen Shores. After investigation no charges were laid.
10 May 2017,
5:22 pm police are investigating multiple complaints of fraud, theft of mail, possession of property obtained by crime. A 30 year old Saugeen Shores male has been arrested and is in custody while police continue to investigate. This is a complex investigation involving thousands of dollars.
11 May 2017,
9:12 am, a person leaving his home noticed the air had been let out of his vehicles tire.
3:35 pm, a person reported a marine gas can was stolen from his boat in Southampton.
12 May 2017,
10:57 am police attended a single vehicle motor vehicle collision on Mill St. where the responsible driver left the scene. The driver was located and found to be uninsured. The driver was charged with operating a motor vehicle with no insurance.
4:54 pm police stopped a vehicle driving erratically in Southampton. The driver appeared impaired but the officer could not detect alcohol. A Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) was called in to perform testing. The driver was required to provide a urine sample that will now be sent away for testing. The driver could face charged of impaired driving by drug.
6:44 pm police responded to a motor vehicle collision at Ivings Drive and Goderich St. A vehicle was stopped east on Ivings at a red light at Goderich St. A second vehicle behind the first did not stop in time and struck the stopped vehicle. Minor damage was caused as a result of the collision and there were no injuries. The offending driver was charged with following too closely.
13 May 2017,
1:18 pm police conducted RIDE in Port Elgin, no violations
2:11 pm a boat entry and theft was reported to police. The owner believes the theft took place last November. His boat was shrink-wrapped and stored at the Port Elgin Harbour. The wrap appeared to have ripped so he had it repaired and only now observed the theft. Items stolen included two down-rigging rods and a tool box.
11:29 pm police conducted RIDE in Southampton, no violations.
14 May 2017,
7:44 am a vehicle struck a deer on Bruce Rd #3 near Elm St. The vehicle was severely damaged and had to be towed.
8:28 pm police responded to a single vehicle motor vehicle collision at Carlisle and Concession #14. The driver was blinded by the setting sun and drove into the ditch knocking over a Saugeen Shores sign. No injuries.
Identity theft and computer scams are here to stay. Do everything you can do to protect yourself. Think about what you throw away in the trash with identifying information on it. Could enough of it be used to set up a bank account or credit card account? Invest in a small shredder, they don’t cost much. Shred any document you want to discard, protect yourself from those who wish to take advantage of you. Make sure you keep an updated virus detection system on your computer, use passwords to your devices. If it is difficult for someone to get your information they will move onto the next person that maybe has not taken the precautions they should have.
