(WALKERTON, ON) – On April 6th, 2011 at 4:45 pm, the South Bruce OPP was called to Lobie’s Park in Walkerton as two youth were observed climbing the escarpment along the edge of the Saugeen River. Officers arrived quickly and removed the youth from the escarpment. At this location, the escarpment is very steep and sandy, leading down to a swollen and fast moving Saugeen River. Both youth were warned about the danger that they put themselves in. If either youth had the lost their footing in the sand, this could easily have had a tragic ending. Parents and care givers are asked to speak with their youth about the importance of staying away from the river. This is more important in the spring when the increased volume of water creates deeper and faster moving water.
