With the nicer weather, there is an increase in the number of pedestrians and cyclists. The London Police Service is asking all drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to be vigilant of one another to reduce the risk of collisions.
Within the last few weeks, collisions have occurred on London roadways resulting in serious injuries; and even death.
On Saturday, June 13th, a collision involving a cyclist occurred at Wellington Road at Bradley Avenue, that resulted in an 18-year-old male losing his life. No charges were laid in this matter.
On Monday, July 6th, a 20-year-old male collided into a moving transport truck while on his skateboard at Dundas Street at Adelaide Street. He was in critical condition for days and is now listed in fair condition.
On Wednesday, July 8th, a 47-year-old female collided with a transport truck on Highbury Avenue while riding her bicycle. She remains in hospital in critical condition.
The drivers were not at fault in these three incidents. With hundreds of collisions every year, fault varies based on circumstances. The purpose of this release is not to point out who is – or is not – at fault, but rather to raise awareness in hopes of reducing the number of collisions.
Safety is a shared responsibility with all users of our roadways and sidewalks – drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. Let’s all do our part to ensure the safety of everyone!
