(MUNICIPALITY OF NORTH PERTH, ON) On Friday March 23, 2012 just before midnight Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were dispatched to Line 57 north, west of Monkton, where a collision had occurred between a car and a farm tractor pulling a wagon.
Investigation revealed that the car sideswiped the tractor causing the dump wagon being pulled by the tractor to roll over and block the roadway. The tractor also sustained extensive damage as the two large rear tires on the driver’s side of the tractor were broken from the axle. The car was damaged but the driver drove it away from the scene in an eastbound direction. A short while later police located the car at a Monkton residence.
The driver of the car was arrested and transported to the North Perth OPP Detachment in Listowel where he failed two Intoxilyzer breath tests. Robert Pestell (57) of the Municipality of North Perth has been charged with “fail to remain at the scene of an accidentâ€Â, “impaired operation of a motor vehicleâ€Â, and “operation of a motor vehicle with over 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 ml of bloodâ€Â. He is scheduled to appear in Listowel Court on April 18, 2012 to answer to these charges. He was also issued a 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his car was impounded for 7 days.
No injuries were sustained as a result of this collision. The road was blocked for a couple of hours while the damaged tractor and wagon were removed.
