(TOWNSHIP OF PERTH SOUTH, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was called to investigate a construction incident South of Sebringville.
On Friday June 10, 2016 at the noon hour Perth County OPP officers were dispatched to the intersection of Line 32 and Road 134 where a construction vehicle had struck a hydro pole and a construction worker had been seriously injured.
Investigation revealed that a construction truck with a water tank struck the driver who was outside the vehicle. The driver-less truck then struck a hydro pole located on the south side of the roadway causing a powerline to become detached and land on the roadway near the driver. The driver was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
54-year-old Murray HYDE of the Township of Perth East has been identified as the deceased driver.
The West Region OPP Technical Traffic Investigation (TTCI) Team is at the scene and is assisting with the investigation. The Perth East Fire Department, Perth County EMS and Hydro One personnel were in attendance and assisted at the scene. The Ontario Ministry of Labour and the Coroner are also involved in the investigation.
The incident resulted in a minor power outage in the area of the incident. Line 32 between Road 140 and Road 134, and Road 134 between the Village of Sebringville and Line 32 is expected to remain closed to traffic until approximately 10 p.m.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
