Risk of Catalytic Converter Thefts From Commercial Vehicles

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a series of catalytic converter thefts from commercial vehicles over the past several months in 42 Division.

Catalytic converters are also known as Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). This type of theft has been occurring throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

If you operate a commercial vehicle (trucks), you need to be aware of the risk of catalytic converter thefts, particularly if your commercial vehicle has large ground clearance.

Thieves are targeting catalysts – located in the exhaust system under the vehicle – because of the scrap metals they contain.

On diesel vehicles, the diesel oxidation catalyst is often integrated with the DPF and there is anecdotal evidence that these are being stolen for their scrap value.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-4200, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), online at www.222tips.com, text TOR and your message to CRIMES (274637), or Leave A Tip on Facebook.
