(COUNTY OF WELLINGTON, ON) -Wellington County OPP continued their efforts to get drunk drivers off the roads with several Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) checks throughout the weekend. Since the campaign started November 20, 2017, eight drivers in the county have received three-day roadside suspensions and eight drivers have been charged with impaired or over 80. Two of the impaired driving charges came as a result of motor vehicle collisions.
This past weekend three drivers were charged as a result of R.I.D.E checks set up throughout the county.
On December 2, 2017 at approximately 8:00 p.m. OPP officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. check on County Road 124 east of Watson Road. A male operating a 2015 Mitsubishi entered the R.I.D.E program.
While speaking with the driver, officers detected signs of alcohol consumption and impairment. The driver was arrested for impaired driving and transported to a local detachment for further testing.
49-year-old Jerzy SNELA of Kitchener has been charged with Impaired Driving, Fail or Refuse to Provide a Sample and Driving with Open Liquor. He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on December 29, 2017 to answer to the charges.
On December 3, 2017 at approximately 1:30 a.m. OPP officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. check on the Hanlon Expressway near Wellington Street, City of Guelph. A male operating a Chevrolet Silverado entered the check.
While speaking with the driver, officers detected signs of alcohol consumption. A Roadside Screening Test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and transported to a local OPP Detachment for further testing.
21-year-old Dylan HUNT of Branchton was charged with Drive Over 80 and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court January 2, 2018 to answer to the charge.

A male operating a 2007 Mazda entered the check. While speaking with the driver, officers detected signs of alcohol consumption. A Roadside Screening Test was conducted which resulted in a fail. He was arrested and transported to a local OPP Detachment for further testing.
22-year-old Denver WILSON-HOPE of Guelph has been charged with Drive Over 80 and is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court January 2, 2018 to answer to the charge.
In all three cases, a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (A.D.L.S.) and seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated as per statute.
