RIDE Check Leads To Drugs and Stolen Property

(KENILWORTH, ON) – On November 5 2012, County of Wellington OPP officers were conducting a RIDE check on Highway 6 in the Hamlet of Kenilworth. At 8:50pm, a northbound Ford Focus entered the RIDE check with 2 occupants. An odour of alcohol was detected coming from the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle was searched, and a quantity of alcohol was seized. Further investigation revealed the occupants were in possession of a flat screen TV which was stolen earlier in the day from a store in Waterloo Region, as well as a small quantity of Marijuana.

Terry Spears age 40 of Mount Forest has been charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, and Fail to Comply with Undertaking, both contrary to the Criminal Code. She will remain in custody pending a bail hearing.

Sonny Downey age 34 of Mount Forest has been charged with Possession of Marijuana, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act(CDSA), and Breach of Probation, contrary to the Criminal Code. He was released on a Promise to Appear with a Guelph criminal court date of December 11, 2012 to answer to the charges.
