At their April 27, 2015 meeting, Brockton Council adopted Tax Rate By-Law 2015-036. Section 4 of the by-law identifies a Waste Management Fee for all Brockton properties, including commercial and industrial properties. Multi-residential, commercial, and industrial properties that provided a copy of their third party waste removal contract, were eligible for an exemption if that third party did not use Brockton Landfills. Prior to 2015, the waste management fee only applied to residential properties and did not include commercial and industrial properties. After receiving feedback and numerous exemption requests, Council chose not to proceed with this change.
On June 22, 2015, Council passed a resolution to amend Section 4 of By-Law 2015-036 so that commercial and industrial properties will not be charged a waste management fee. Multi-residential properties will continue to be charged the waste management fee unless they provide evidence of a contract with any third party hauler.
