Residents and Motorists Take A Stand – Wanted Youth Tracked Down

(MUNICIPALITY OF WEST PERTH, ON) On Friday July 27, 2012 shortly after 8:30 a.m., a Perth County OPP officer on patrol in Mitchell observed a male youth walking on St. David St. in Mitchell. The officer who had dealt with this male previously recognized him and believed him to be wanted by Huron County OPP and Stratford Police Service. Upon verification of the existence of warrants, the officer located the male who fled on foot when approached.

An extensive foot chase ensued in and around the Mitchell downtown area. Numerous other officers patrolled the town in search for the male. Throughout the search, calls and directions that helped in locating the male were provided by residents and motorists. At 9:15 a.m. the male was arrested on Montreal St. east of St. George St.

The 16 year old Stratford male was transported to Goderich where he was to appear in court.

The OPP officers involved in this incident wish to express their appreciation to the public for the assistance they provided.
